Smooth Zucchini Puree
A simple, gentle green vegetable puree made from steamed zucchini. Lovely as a first food on its own or stirred into other purees.
Ingredients
- 3 medium zucchini, trimmed and sliced
- 60 ml water4.06 tbsp water
Steps
- Trim the hard ends off each zucchini, then slice the zucchini into thin rounds.
- Place the zucchini and water in a small pot and heat until the water comes to a boil.
- Cover with a lid, turn off the heat, and let the zucchini steam for 5 to 6 minutes until tender.
- Drain the zucchini, reserving the cooking liquid in a small cup.
- Blend the zucchini until smooth, adding reserved liquid a little at a time to reach your desired consistency.

Tips by age
Blend completely smooth and thin with extra cooking liquid, breast milk, or formula to a soft, spoonable consistency.
Choking safety: Make sure the puree is fully smooth with no firm pieces before serving.
Leave the puree a little thicker with a soft texture to encourage tongue and gum practice, or offer soft steamed zucchini fingers to grasp.
