Tips by age

6-8mo

Blend completely smooth and thin with extra water, breast milk, or formula to a soft, pourable puree. Offer on a pre-loaded spoon.

Choking safety: Check carefully for any small fish bones and remove them all before serving. Make sure the puree is fully smooth with no chunks.

9-11mo

Blend less so the puree keeps a slightly thicker, soft texture to encourage tongue and gum practice, or mash with a fork.

Choking safety: Double-check for fish bones and remove any. Keep carrot and leek fully soft with no firm pieces.

12-18mo

Serve thicker and lightly mashed, or flake the fish and dice the soft carrot into small bite-size pieces alongside. For over-1s you can add a pinch of salt to taste.

Choking safety: Remove all fish bones and keep carrot pieces soft and small. Cut any larger chunks down to bite-size.
