Make the Sauce

  2. Add the honey, soy sauce, lemon juice, and minced garlic, then whisk until the sauce is well combined.

Cook the Meatballs

  1. Heat a pan over medium heat, add the cooked meatballs, and warm them through, turning so they brown lightly on all sides.
  2. Pour the sauce over the meatballs and toss gently so each one is evenly coated.
  3. Simmer for about 5 minutes until the meatballs are hot all the way through and the sauce has thickened into a glossy glaze.

Serve

  1. Spoon the meatballs and sauce over steamed rice, with soft, well-cooked vegetables on the side.
  2. Optional: for older kids and adults who like heat, sprinkle a pinch of chili flakes over the top to taste.

Tips by age

12-18mo

Cut the meatballs into small bite-size pieces and serve with soft, well-cooked rice and vegetables. Soy sauce is naturally salty, so use low-sodium and a light hand at this age.

Choking safety: Whole or large meatball pieces are a choking risk. Quarter them and flatten each piece slightly before serving.

18-24mo

Halve or quarter the meatballs so they are easy to chew. Keep vegetables soft and rice moist. Honey is safe at this age since your child is over one.

Choking safety: Cut meatballs into small pieces; large rounds can block small airways.

2-3y

Cut each meatball into halves or quarters and offer alongside rice and soft vegetables. Keep the soy sauce light to limit salt.

Choking safety: Quarter the meatballs so they are not a round choking shape.

3-5y

Serve as written, cutting the meatballs into bite-size pieces. Let them spoon a little extra glaze over their rice.

Choking safety: Cut meatballs in half until you are confident your child chews well.

5-8y

Serve as written with rice and vegetables. Older kids can have a tiny sprinkle of chili flakes if they enjoy a little heat.
