Steps
Soften the Vegetables

- Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat until it foams gently.
- Add the onion and carrot and saute for about 5 minutes until softened and glossy.
Build the Soup
- Stir in the flour and cook for 2 minutes, coating the vegetables evenly to thicken the soup.
- Pour in the stock and milk, then bring the mixture up to a gentle simmer, stirring as it warms.
Add Chicken and Pasta
- Dice the chicken into 1 cm cubes, add to the pot, and poach at a low simmer for 10 minutes.
- Stir in the uncooked pasta and cook a few minutes less than the package time, until just tender.
- Add the peas and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until heated through, thinning with a little stock if too thick.
- For over-1s and adults, season with a pinch of salt and pepper to taste, then serve warm.

Serve a smaller portion and use a small pasta shape. Cut the chicken into tiny soft pieces and lightly mash the peas so they are easy to manage.
Choking safety: Whole peas and chicken cubes can be a choking hazard. Mash peas and dice chicken very small and soft.

Choking safety: Keep chicken cubes small and soft; lightly squash any whole peas for the youngest in this range.

Choking safety: Cut any larger chicken pieces down so they are easy to chew.
Serve as written. This is a good self-feeding meal with a spoon, and they can help stir at the table once it cools a little.
