Tips by age
Serve as written as a warm side or light meal. Increase the portion to suit their appetite.
Blend the sweet potato and rice fully smooth and thin with extra water, breast milk, or formula to a soft pourable puree. Skip the jaggery, as added sugar is not needed at this stage.
Choking safety: Ensure the mixture is fully smooth with no lumps of rice or sweet potato.
Leave the mixture softly mashed with a little texture to encourage tongue and gum practice. Keep the jaggery out or use only a tiny amount.
Choking safety: Make sure the rice is fully softened and there are no firm clumps.
Serve soft and lightly textured. A small amount of jaggery is fine. Offer on a pre-loaded spoon or let your toddler self-feed.
Serve as written, kept soft and scoopable. Let your toddler practice spooning it up on their own.
Serve as written in a small bowl. You can leave the rice a little fluffier rather than mashed for this age.
Serve as written, optionally with the rice cooked plain and fluffy alongside the sweet potato for a more grown-up plate.
