Tips by age
Serve a whole bite or halve it into easy-to-grab pieces. Keep cheese amounts modest because cheddar adds natural salt.
Choking safety: Cut into bite-size pieces and check there are no firm browned edges that could be hard to chew.
Serve whole as a finger food or quarter for smaller hands. A spoon of plain yogurt alongside makes a nice dip.
Choking safety: Quarter the bites for confident self-feeders to keep pieces a comfortable size.
Serve as written, two or three bites per portion, halved if your child prefers smaller pieces.
Serve whole as a snack or lunchbox addition. Pair with veggie sticks or fruit for a balanced plate.
Serve a few bites as a snack or side. For over-1s and adults who like more flavor, add a small pinch of salt to the mix before baking.
Offer a whole soft bite for your baby to hold and gum, or break it into large soft pieces they can pick up. Use low-sodium cheese and keep portions small since cheddar is naturally salty.
Choking safety: Make sure each bite is soft and easily squashed between your fingers; flatten any firm edges before offering.
