  • 0.25 cup rolled oat
  • 1 medium banana
  • 0.25 cup breast milk or iron-fortified formula

Steps

  1. Combine oats with 3/4 cup water in a small saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat.
  2. Cook, stirring frequently, for 6 to 8 minutes until oats are very soft and thick.
  3. Mash the banana with a fork until no lumps remain.
  4. Stir the mashed banana into the cooked oats.
  5. Blend or press through a fine sieve for a 6-8 month serving; leave softly mashed for a 9-11 month serving.
  6. Thin to desired consistency with breast milk or formula. Serve warm, checking the temperature before offering.
