Tips by age
Serve a plain muffin with no sugar coating. Break or cut it into small bite-size pieces and offer a few at a time. These contain added sugar, so keep them as an occasional treat.
Choking safety: Do not offer a whole mini muffin; break into small soft pieces to lower choking risk.
Offer a plain muffin broken into bite-size pieces, or a lightly coated one for a special treat. Limit added sugar at this age.
Choking safety: Break the muffin into pieces rather than handing over a whole one.
Serve a whole muffin halved or in a few pieces so it is easy to hold and bite. The cinnamon-sugar coating is fine occasionally.
Choking safety: Halve or quarter the muffin for easier biting.
Serve a muffin as is, plain or coated. Most children this age can manage a whole mini muffin while seated and supervised.
Serve one or two muffins as written, plain or with the cinnamon-sugar coating, as part of a balanced breakfast or snack.
