Applesauce, Banana and Chia Seed Oat Cookies
Soft, naturally sweet oat cookies made with banana, applesauce and chia seeds. A gentle snack for toddlers with no added sugar.
Ingredients
- 120 g banana, ripe4.23 oz banana, ripe
- 140 g apple sauce, unsweetened4.94 oz apple sauce, unsweetened
- 5 ml vanilla extract1.01 tsp vanilla extract
- 15 ml chia seeds1.01 tbsp chia seeds
- 100 g rolled oats3.53 oz rolled oats
- 70 g flour2.47 oz flour
- 2.5 ml baking powder0.51 tsp baking powder
- 5 ml cinnamon, ground1.01 tsp cinnamon, ground
- 30 g butter, melted1.06 oz butter, melted
Steps
Mix the Wet Ingredients
- Blend the banana, applesauce, chia seeds and vanilla together until smooth and well combined.
- Let the mixture sit for a couple of minutes so the chia seeds start to soften.
Mix the Dry Ingredients
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the oats, flour, cinnamon and baking powder until evenly combined.
Combine and Chill
- Pour the blended banana mixture and the melted butter into the dry ingredients, then stir until you have a soft, wet dough.
- Cover and refrigerate the dough for 15 minutes so the chia seeds gel and the butter firms up.
Shape and Bake
- Preheat the oven to 180C (360F) and line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Scoop the dough into balls onto the tray, then flatten each gently with the back of a spoon.
- Bake for about 10 minutes until lightly golden, then cool on a wire rack before serving.
