Tips by age
Cut the apple into very thin slices or grate it so it is soft to chew, and offer a small portion with a light drizzle of caramel. This is a sweet treat for occasional snacking.
Choking safety: Raw apple is firm and a choking risk under 4. Slice paper-thin or grate, and leave off or finely chop the chocolate chips, which are small and round.
Serve thin apple slices with the caramel and toppings, seated and supervised. Keep portions modest given the added sugar from maple syrup and chocolate.
Choking safety: Cut apple into thin slices rather than thick wedges, and watch closely as chocolate chips are small and round.
Serve as written, with apple slices, caramel, and toppings. A fun after-school snack to enjoy in moderation.
