Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion
  • 2 clove garlic
  • 1 carrot
  • 800 g tomato
  • 0.5 tsp dried oregano
  • 0.5 tsp dried basil
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1 tbsp butter

Steps

  1. Sauté the veggies - Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, and grated carrot. Cook for 3-4 minutes until soft.
  2. Add the tomatoes & seasonings - Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and tomato paste (if using).
  3. Simmer - Reduce heat and let it cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of water or broth.
  4. Blend (Optional) - For a smooth, kid-friendly texture, use an immersion blender or regular blender to puree the sauce.
  5. Finish with butter - Stir in butter for extra creaminess and a mellow flavor.
